When Greg Nielsen purchased a Cousins Subs franchise in 1999, he already had several years of experience as a CPA behind him. Armed with his accounting background, Greg was well-prepared for the financial management demands that come with franchise ownership. But he was surprised to find that his franchisor had no standardized process for franchisees to prepare and deliver the critical monthly financial reports. After some research, Greg quickly discovered that this same issue plagued most franchise organizations, leaving millions of franchisees on their own to figure out how to report, track, compare and analyze financial data -- all crucial to managing profitability.
Greg knew that a user-friendly, system-wide accounting solution that was developed just for franchise organizations could fill a huge gap in the industry. And as a CPA and franchise owner, he was the perfect person to create it. Thus, in 1999 ProfitKeeper was born.
